Job summary

The Town of East Hartford seeks a Deputy Director of Community Development to lead land use, building services, and community programs within the Development Department. This role focuses on policy development, performance metrics, and alignment with Mayor and Town Council guidance.

The candidate will supervise staff, drive process improvements, and manage multiple projects with deadlines, while engaging with business partners and community stakeholders to support responsible growth.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in urban planning, business administration, or a closely related field.
• At least four years of progressively responsible experience in community affairs, urban planning, or municipal development.
• Experience in local government, supervision, budgeting, marketing, and research is highly desirable.
• Certification as a CEcD is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee staff coordination and supervision within the Development Department.
• Assist in developing and implementing policies and department objectives.
• Plan, organize, and coordinate land use, building services, and community development programs.
• Build and maintain relationships with business functions and external partners.
• Provide staff support to town boards, commissions, and task forces, and assist the Director with daily management.
• Support development of the department’s budgets and forecasting needs.
