Job summary

KS Engineers, P.C. seeks a Deputy Department Manager to lead civil/site engineering projects from proposal through construction support. You will supervise cross-disciplinary teams and supervise budgets, schedules, and client coordination in transportation and public infrastructure.

The role requires a PE license (NJ/NY) and 10+ years of civil experience, including 5+ years leading design teams. Experience with NJDOT/NYSDOT and related agencies is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution is required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey or New York is required; reciprocity within 6 months if licensed elsewhere.
• Minimum 10 years of civil/site engineering experience.
• Minimum 5 years managing multiple civil/site engineering projects and leading design teams.
• Familiarity with NJDOT, NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NJDEP, NYSDEC, NYCDEP; NYCDDC, PANYNJ, NJTA a plus.

• Oversee and prepare civil/site engineering design documents for transportation, municipal, commercial, and public infrastructure projects.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, quantity estimates, and construction cost estimates.
• Direct the preparation of construction plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Mentor junior engineers and technical staff while providing technical leadership throughout project execution.

Position: Deputy Department Manager

Reports to: Department Manager – Civil

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple civil/site engineering projects from proposal through final design and construction support.
• Lead and supervise multidisciplinary engineering and CAD design teams.
• Develop project scopes, schedules, staffing plans, and budgets.
• Monitor project progress, profitability, and resource allocation.
• Review and approve project invoices, change orders, and project financial reports.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, subconsultants, utility companies, and regulatory agencies.
• Oversee and prepare civil/site engineering design documents for transportation, municipal, commercial, and public infrastructure projects.
• Perform and review engineering design for: Site/civil design including grading, roadway, storm water management, green infrastructure, water and sewer mains, signing, and erosion and sediment control design.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, quantity estimates, and construction cost estimates.
• Direct the preparation of construction plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Coordinate and collaborate, as needed, with other KS Engineering Departments on pursuits, teaming, project designs and quality including the Design Coordination Meetings.
• Mentor junior engineers and technical staff while providing technical leadership throughout project execution.

Requirements

Educational/Professional Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey or New York is required. Candidates licensed in another state must be able to obtain reciprocity in NJ and/or NY within 6 months.
• Minimum 10 years of civil/site engineering experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience managing multiple civil/site engineering projects and leading design teams.
• Familiarity with agencies standards and protocols including: NJDOT, NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NJDEP, NYSDEC, NYCDEP. Familiarity with NYCDDC, PANYNJ, and NJTA is a plus
• Engineering Project Pursuit and Teaming experience preferred
• Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, staffing, and client relationships.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods (often 6–8 hours a day).
• Maintaining posture while working at a computer.
• Short periods of standing or walking within the office (to printers, meeting rooms, etc.).

Salary Description
