Job summary

Santa Clara County Library district seeks a Deputy County Librarian to influence the evolution of a modern, responsive library system in Silicon Valley. This executive role will guide strategy, programs, and equitable services across the district, serving as acting department head when needed and shaping policy with the executive team.

You will lead a diverse leadership team, align services to community needs, and strengthen partnerships across county departments and communities.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of progressively responsible supervisory/administrative experience in a public library system.
• Experience participating in policy and program determination at a systemwide level or leadership of a community library.
• Knowledge of library administration, operations, personnel management, fiscal management, collection development, reference services, and staffing strategies.
• Ability to lead comprehensive programs, supervise diverse teams, communicate effectively, and build relationships with communities and organizations.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the County Librarian to set strategy and design programs for the library system.
• Deliver exceptional and equitable library services across the system; plan, organize, and direct key programs.
• Act as department head when needed and advise on policy, service delivery, and community impact.
• Represent the County Librarian at internal, community, professional, and governmental meetings.
