Job summary

German American Bank is seeking a seasoned Deputy Compliance Officer to lead enterprise-wide compliance management, including CMS, BSA, and CRA/Fair Lending functions, in Owensboro, Kentucky. You will partner with executive leadership to shape compliance strategy, monitor regulatory risk, and drive timely remediation while supporting sound operations and integrity across the bank.

With 5–10 years in banking compliance, you’ll mentor teams, oversee examinations, and translate complex regulations

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of banking compliance, regulatory, or risk management experience.
  • 3–5 years of leadership/managerial experience.
  • Experience at a mid-size or large financial institution ($5B-$50B).
  • Experience managing regulatory compliance examinations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Business Administration, or related field.
  • CRCM and/or CAMS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Bank’s Compliance, BSA, and CRA/Fair Lending teams and CMS.
  • Direct compliance monitoring, testing, and regulatory change management.
  • Develop meaningful compliance metrics and executive reporting.
  • Support regulatory examinations and timely findings resolution.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to promote compliant operations.

Overview:

We’re seeking an experiencedDeputy Compliance Officerto provide leadership for our enterprise-wide Compliance Management System (CMS) and serve as a key partner to executive leadership in managing regulatory risk. This is an opportunity to influence the Bank’s compliance strategy, lead high-performing teams, and help ensure we continue to operate with integrity, accountability, and a strong commitment to doing what’s right.


What You’ll Do:

Day in the Life– As the Deputy Compliance Officer, you'll lead the Bank’s Compliance, BSA, and CRA/Fair Lending teams while overseeing the Bank’s enterprise-wide CMS. You’ll provide guidance on federal and state banking regulations, direct compliance monitoring and testing activities, and oversee regulatory change management efforts. You'll establish meaningful compliance metrics and reporting for executive leadership and management committees, support regulatory examinations and audits, and help ensure timely resolution of findings. Along the way, you'll collaborate with business leaders across the organization to promote sound compliance practices, provide credible challenge, and support well‑controlled business operations.

What it Takes:

To be successful as the Deputy Compliance Officer, you’ll need:

  • 5-10 years of banking compliance, regulatory, or risk management experience.
  • 3-5 years leadership/managerial experience.
  • Experience at a mid‑size or large financial institution ($5B-$50B)
  • Demonstrated experience managing regulatory compliance examinations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Business Administration, or related field required. Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) and/or Certified Anti‑Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) preferred.
  • Ability to: communicate effectively (written and verbally), maintain confidentiality, work with speed and accuracy, and work independently and as a team member.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work well in teams and individually.
