Job summary

The New York City Department of Correction seeks a dynamic Deputy Commissioner of Classification & Population Management to lead the unit responsible for placing the DOC population across facilities based on risk levels. You will oversee data collection, policy compliance, and interagency collaboration to support housing, programming, and community re-entry goals.

Reporting to the Chief of Department, you will supervise staff, develop classification procedures, train teams, and audit hearings.

Qualifications

• A Master's degree plus five years of related experience, with 18 months in admin/managerial roles.
• A Bachelor's degree plus seven years of related experience, with 18 months in admin/managerial roles.
• High school diploma with eleven years of related experience, 18 months in admin/managerial roles.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team responsible for placement of DOC population across facilities by risk level.
• Develop and update classification procedures and data collection standards.
• Audit classification hearings and supervise transfers between facilities.
• Collaborate with education, health, mental health, and other program areas.

Education

Master’s Degree in Public Administration / related field

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration / related field

High School Diploma with 11 years of progressive experience
