Job summary

Hamilton County Juvenile Court seeks a capable clerk to support the Help Center and Clerk’s Office, handling filings, payments, and inquiries with accuracy and confidentiality.

Starting salary is $22.00 per hour, 40 hours per week, in Cincinnati. Deadline to apply: September 16, 2026. Location: Judges Office, 800 Broadway, Cincinnati, OH 45202; generous benefits and PTO provided.

Qualifications

  • Must possess analytical skills/abilities, which include: Ability to interpret filing requirements.
  • Must possess clerical/administrative skills/abilities, which include: Ability to follow legal procedures, manage a cash drawer and perform general clerical duties (i.e. filing, copying, faxing, etc.).
  • Must possess computer/technical skills/abilities, which include: Ability to operate a computer and use Windows based computer applications.
  • Must possess project/process management skills/abilities, which include: Ability to perform all duties in an organized and efficient manner; Ability to process legal documents with speed and accuracy.
  • Must possess written and oral communication skills/abilities, which include: Ability to work in a dignified manner with all persons in often stressful situations; Ability to recognize situations requiring confidentiality and maintain confidentiality.
  • Must possess knowledge and understanding of: Legal vernacular and procedures, Juvenile Court Administrative Procedures and Court documents with special focus on Case Management and Clerk's Office.

Responsibilities

  • Assists pro se litigants and help center clients with private custody and companionship filings by explaining procedures, reviewing forms for completeness, and providing accurate procedural information in a patient, professional, and helpful manner.
  • Screens, processes, and manages complaints, resultant motions, and ancillary actions for cases of custody, visitation, paternity, support, dependency, adult misdemeanors, delinquency, unruly, and traffic cases.
  • Assists pro se petitioners by discerning the nature of their case and explaining procedural options.
  • Serves as a liaison between litigants, Help Center staff, attorneys, court personnel, and the public by facilitating communication, providing documentation, and responding to inquiries.
  • Manages multiple clerical and procedural responsibilities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing tasks and maintaining attention to detail.
  • Assesses court costs, processes payments of bond, purges, restitution, filing fees, and miscellaneous fees.
  • Disbursement of bonds as dictated by law.
  • Maintains general working knowledge of all Court departments and a detailed working knowledge of the Case Management, Help Center, and Clerk’s Office function procedures to effectively assist the public and support departmental functions.
  • Generates reports, maintains statistical data, and assists with tracking and reporting Help Center information as needed. Images, copies, scans, files, and distribute documents and records in accordance with departmental policies and record-keeping standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
