Job summary

The City of San José is seeking an Assistant Chief Information Officer (ACIO) to co-lead the Information Technology Department, driving innovation and technology strategy across a multi‑disciplinary team of 51 staff.

The ACIO will strengthen cybersecurity, modernize systems, and foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement while aligning with executive leadership and city goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
• Seven years of progressive IT, business management and/or administration experience; at least three years in supervisory roles within a complex organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead and sustain an exceptional innovation and technology team.
• Provide inspirational leadership, fostering confidence, empathy, and respect.
• Develop employees within a collaborative, team-oriented environment to address complex multi-department challenges.
• Oversee the City’s Business Solutions, Data & BI functions and the Customer Contact Center.
