Job summary

The University of Washington Police Department (UWPD) seeks a Deputy Chief for Police Administration to lead the Administrative Division, including Logistics, IT, and Internal Affairs. This executive role reports to the Chief of Police and acts as a key member of the senior leadership team, ensuring policy compliance and strategic direction for campus safety.

Based onsite at UWPD, the Deputy Chief will coordinate with external partners and oversee budget development, grants, and department-wide

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Ten years’ experience in progressively responsible law enforcement work, including supervisory/admin experience.
• State of Washington commissioned officer or able to obtain commission within 12 months.
• Thorough knowledge of modern police science and administration; knowledge of laws at local, state and federal level.
• Ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise large teams; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs and manages the Administrative Division incl. Logistics/Planning, IT, and Internal Affairs; lead in director/chief's absence.
• Participates in recruitment and retention; supervises education and training of department personnel.
• Monitors departmental administration via meetings and reports; ensures quality control and compliance.
• Participates in labor/management negotiations and budget development; seeks grant opportunities.
• Fosters cooperation with other agencies and manages on-call responses to major incidents.
