Job summary

Elko County seeks an experienced Assistant Chief Juvenile Probation Officer to manage departmental functions in the Chief's absence. The role requires strong leadership, policy development, and collaboration with the court system.

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred; must meet Nevada POST and driver’s license requirements. The incumbent will train staff, review cases, coordinate detention services, and ensure compliance with laws and regulations within a dynamic juvenile justice environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; or a combination of education and experience.
Minimum 5 years of related work experience; 2 years in a supervisory role preferred.
Must maintain a valid Nevada driver’s license and POST certification; CPR/First Aid preferred.

Responsibilities

Assumes management responsibility in the absence of the Chief Juvenile Probation Officer.
Develops, evaluates, and implements policies and programs to meet goals.
Reviews case files and plans to determine appropriate services.
Trains probation officers and monitors their work.
Coordinate detention services and provide shift coverage when needed.
Identify and report potential abuse or neglect within 24 hours.
Oversee compliance with department procedures and regulations.
