Shield AI in Seattle is seeking a Deputy Chief Engineer for X-BAT to lead the technical execution across the design, development, and maturation of the autonomous air vehicle. You will balance performance, safety, cost, and schedule while coordinating across aerodynamics, structures, avionics, software, and manufacturing, reporting to the Air Vehicle Lead.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline.
• 12+ years of progressive experience in complex aircraft or aerospace systems.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
• Strong system-level thinking and judgment.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary technical deputy to the X-BAT Air Vehicle Lead and translate objectives into engineering priorities.
• Maintain the aircraft's technical baseline including requirements, architecture and interfaces.
• Lead day-to-day integration across aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, avionics, software and testing.
• Drive technical decisions grounded in first-principles and assess consequences.
• Lead technical and design reviews through fabrication, ground and flight tests.
• Partner with Program Management to align scope with schedule, budget and staffing.
• Develop and grow engineering leadership across teams.
