State of Indiana's Office of the Attorney General seeks an experienced attorney to provide legal counsel to state agencies and quasi-governmental bodies. The Advisory Division handles diverse projects, drafting opinions, memoranda, and reviewing contracts and rules.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Research and draft formal opinions and legal memoranda to state government agencies, statewide elected officials, county prosecutors and quasi-governmental bodies.
• Assist boards, commissions, and agencies in researching legal matters, conducting adjudicatory hearings and open meetings.
• Review and approve state contracts, grants, leases, and memoranda of understanding for form and legality.
• Provide support and guidance on contracts and administrative rules as assigned by Chief Counsel.
• Prepare responses to public records requests under the Public Records Act.

The Office of the Indiana Attorney General represents the state in cases involving the state's interest, provides legal defense to state officials or agencies in court, and gives formal legal advisory opinions on constitutional or legal questions to state officials. Role Overview:

The Advisory Division contributes to the functions and responsibilities of the Office of the Indiana Attorney General by providing legal counsel and guidance to state government agencies as well as quasi-governmental bodies. Due to the diverse nature of the projects undertaken by the Advisory Division, attorneys with backgrounds in every aspect of state government practice are encouraged to apply.

• Research and draft formal opinions as well as legal memoranda to state government agencies, statewide elected officials, county prosecutors and quasi-governmental bodies.
• Assist numerous state boards, commissions, and agencies in researching legal matters, conducting adjudicatory hearings in conformance with the Administrative Orders and Procedures Act, and conducting meetings in conformance with the Open Door Law.
• Review and approve state contracts, grants, leases, and memoranda of understanding for form and legality as well as assisting agencies in drafting such documents.
• Provides support and guidance and engages with issues that arise during management of a state contract.
• Review and approve administrative rules for form and legality as well as assisting agencies in drafting such rules.
• Review and prepare responses to public records requests submitted to the Office of the Attorney General pursuant to the Access to Public Records Act.
• Serve as an administrative law judge upon request of a state government agency.
• Provide legal counsel and associated services to state government agencies and quasi-governmental bodies as assigned by Chief Counsel.
• Provide support and guidance to executive staff concerning legislative matters.

Qualifications:

• Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Indiana.
• Must have strong research and writing skills, be capable of consistently meeting deadlines, and be able to analyze complex questions of law.
• Must be able to competently manage agency relationships and communications and to effectively communicate with supervisors and colleagues.
• Knowledge of, and experience with, the Access to Public Records Act and/or the Administrative Orders and Procedures Act is helpful but not required.

Salary Range Based On Years of Experience:

• Deputy Attorney General I (0-2 years of practice): $76,597 - $82,000
• Deputy Attorney General II (2-5 years of practice): $82,000 - $87,000
• Deputy Attorney General III (5-8 years of practice): $87,000 - $94,000
• Deputy Attorney General IV (8+ years of practice): $94,000 - $104,000+
