Overview

This role will shadow store department leadership for a specified period and train for a department manager role (Produce‑Floral Manager, Deli‑Bakery Manager, Meat‑Seafood Manager or Evening Manager). In this position, the associate will assist store leadership in building a R.E.A.L. culture that promotes trust and positive work relationships in service of Our Purpose and Way of Being, fostering a diverse and inclusive experience for associates and customers, and role‑modeling SEG leadership behaviors. The associate will also help lead, manage and develop store and/or department operations and associates to maximize sales and profitability.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Shadow and assist store leadership in achieving operational goals (OSAT, compliance, inventory, audit standards)
  • Maintain a safe, compliant, and operationally sound store by following company guidelines and procedures
  • Be engaged in the training program and complete all assignments
  • Take responsibility for own development by seeking information and sharing any obstacles in learning
  • Support store leadership in achieving financial goals (sales, gross profit, EBITDA) P&L
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned
Qualifications

Education

  • Required: High School / GED
  • Preferred: High School / GED

Language Requirements

  • Required: English

Experience

  • 0-3 years supervisory experience (minimum)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a retail environment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently
  • Ability to travel to district training store and leadership workshops for program duration
  • Ability to complete program uninterrupted
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Proficient with computer applications used in effectively operating the department
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal, motivational, and communication skills
  • Possession of or ability to obtain Food Safety Certification within 180 days of placement
Environmental Factors

The role is a retail general heavy environment. Physical demands include standing or walking on various floors, manual dexterity, repetitive movements, reaching, carrying loads up to 250 lbs, occasional climbing up to 30 ft. Working conditions may involve indoor, outdoor, cold, heating, wet/humid environments, and may expose the employee to hazardous equipment, sharp objects, loud noise, and chemical exposure. The employee may need to use cleaning supplies, office equipment, register, pricing gun, scales, scanner, and other material handling equipment such as racks, carts, pallet jacks, and shopping carts. Personal Protective Equipment such as goggles, gloves and back brace may be required.
