Job summary

The University of Alabama is seeking a Web Developer IV to lead platform and deployment for the Division of Strategic Communications. You will write and maintain front-end and back-end code for enterprise-level websites and web applications, reporting to the Associate Director of University Web Strategy.

You will own CI/CD pipelines, write production PHP/JS across WordPress and modern frameworks, maintain multisite hosting, and guide other developers on performance and accessibility.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree plus six years of web development experience or a Master's with four years.
• Strong production PHP in WordPress (plugins, blocks, themes) and modern JavaScript with React/Next.js.
• Proficient HTML/CSS, CLI, Git workflows, npm/Node.js tooling, DNS, WCAG 2.1 AA.

Responsibilities

• Lead CI/CD with GitHub Actions, self-hosted runners, and build tooling for WordPress, React, Next.js, and static sites.
• Write production PHP and JavaScript across WordPress plugins, components, templates, and internal apps.
• Maintain WordPress multisite and hosting environments; administer accounts and environments.
• Own deployment path, patch scheduling, rollbacks, and release readiness; manage access requests.
• Monitor site performance and uptime; diagnose cross-layer issues and train other developers.
