    Technicians in the Office of the Parole Board prepare parole-eligible cases for Board consideration by generating COMS reports, upload Parole Board Reviews, assign cases to interview events, calculate Parole Guidelines and enter final decisions in OMS. They prepare notices for public hearing cases, track for compliance with statutory time frames, and prepare reports and recommendations to the Governor following public hearings. They respond to incoming phone calls; open, review and distribute incoming mail; respond to correspondence from prisoners and the general public. Technicians are also responsible for notifying registered crime victims and/or concerned citizens of cases as required under the William Van Regenmorter Crime Victim's Rights Act. They also perform various other duties, as assigned.

    Education

    Experience

    Departmental Technician 7

    One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.

    Departmental Technician 8

    One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service.

    OR

    One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service.

    Departmental Technician E9

    One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.

    OR

    One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.

    OR

    Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.



    Departmental Technician (Trainee) 7

    Two years of experience in a 7 level or higher non-administrative support ECP Group One classification.

    OR

    One year of experience as a first-line supervisor in an ECP Group Three classification.

    Departmental Technician 7

    Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement.

    Departmental Technician 8

    Possession of a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.

    Departmental Technician E9

    Possession of a Bachelor’s degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.



    New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
