The University of Iowa Department of Neurology is seeking a Clinical Technician to independently monitor patients in the adult and pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) and the Electroencephalogram (EEG) lab via digital equipment. This position is responsible for initiating and terminating EMU/EEG studies, as well as ensuring studies are recorded. The Clinical Tech monitors patients and helps maintain the EEG recording quality. This position will also provide support to other EEG Clinical Technicians and Technologists, Nursing staff and Faculty.
Job Duties To Include
- Prepares area and materials for patient testing in the adult and pediatric EMU and EEG lab.
- Performs routine technical measurements using specialized medical equipment (i.e., EEG) to determine changing conditions of a patient.
- Records EMU and EEG studies, ensures quality of recordings, and maintains information obtained during recordings to facilitate interpretation of the data and meet established equipment review guidelines/protocols.
- Identifies clinical and electrographic events and responds appropriately; Working closely with EEG/nursing staff to evaluate patient's mental status and patient safety during events.
- Distributes information to appropriate areas and personnel, provides adequate hand-off reports at end of shift.
- Assists with maintaining electrodes, EEG, research study quality and collecting all equipment/electrodes upon patient discharge for pediatric and adult units.
- Assists technologists with activation procedures of pediatric and adult EMU patients.
- Maintains event log for each patient.
- Performs routine maintenance of EEG and research equipment to ensure adequate readings at all times .
- Recognizes/reduces artifacts and troubleshoots EEG equipment and electrodes as necessary.
- Assists in training new personnel to operate and maintain EEG equipment.
- Ensures high quality video EEG recording.
- Escorts patients to examination rooms
- Assists higher-level staff in performance of their duties as assigned.
Pay Grade: 5 - https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/plans
Percent of Time: 50% (20 hours/week)
Schedule: This position will work rotating shifts, including overnights and weekends. The position will also participate in the holiday rotation. May work occasional day shift hours when staff coverage is needed.
Location: 2BT or SFCH09
Supervision Received: Supervision received by Clinical Care/Specialist Services Supervisor or designee.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
- One year of health care experience involving direct patient care
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
- General computer skills
- Ability to multitask
