A vacancy exists in the Department of Aging for an Activity Coordinator.

Job Purpose

Under supervision of the senior center director, provides administrative, operational, programming and technical assistance, enters data into WellSky and MySeniorCenter, and assists with program registration and membership renewals.


Essential Job Duties
  • Registers new members, renews current members’ membership forms, collects enhancement donations.
  • Enters data into WellSky and other software (such as MySeniorCenter and Survey Monkey).
  • Assists members with accessing MySeniorCenter and OPAL programs.
  • In the absence of, or in collaboration with, a volunteer, provides front desk coverage including answering telephone and in-person questions.
  • In the absence of staff or a council member, accepts payment for council special events, accepts travel payments and places in drop box, greets members and guests, and sells CountyRide tickets.
  • Attends senior center team meetings.
  • Assists in completing reports as needed as assigned by the senior center director.
  • Makes bank deposits for all county revenues as needed.

Required Education and Experience

Possession of a high school diploma or an equivalent;
Plus
Two years successful experience as a playground leader, recreation leader, recreation specialist, teacher, or worker in a closely allied field.


Preferred Qualifications

Two years successful work experience at senior centers; with adult education, adult recreation, counseling, social work, community development or a closely related field.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Familiarity with, and can enforce, the Senior Center and Community Services Division Standard Operating Procedures and the Baltimore County policies and procedures.
  • Experience working with computers including Microsoft Office suite and Outlook.
  • Experience with MySeniorCenter, WellSky and Survey Monkey an asset.
  • Good knowledge of the needs of older adults and the means to meet those needs.
  • Good knowledge of the objectives and purposes of activities, programs, and services for older adults.
  • Good customer service skills and ability to work effectively with older adults, volunteers and the community in general.
  • Ability to keep charts and records of average complexity.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Licenses and Certificates

This position may require possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial class C Maryland driver's license at the time of appointment.

This position may require maintaining CPR/AED/First Aid and ServSafe certifications which must be maintained throughout employment.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE

Qualified applicants will be assigned a rating based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as submitted on their application and supplemental questions. Applicants are advised to state the dates, duties and responsibilities of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes. Employees in this classification may be assigned to work nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.


Physical and Environmental Conditions

The work of this classification entails some physical labor including walking over rough and uneven surfaces in the inspection of facilities and grounds, and some lifting and carrying of items.

The work entails travel to recreation and park sites, facilities, and meetings throughout the County.


Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation

Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education certification and fingerprinting checks.
