About the Role

As a Department Manager, you’ll lead, support and encourage your whole team. By bringing everyone together you’ll create an inclusive culture that promotes collaboration and an entrepreneurial spirit, helping your team and H&M succeed. You’ll ensure an excellent operational and visual experience for your store, customers and colleagues. You’ll be aware of your store’s strengths, opportunities and competitors, analyze and follow up on sales, and create plans to optimize results and profits.

A Day in the Life

Working at H&M means no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will include the following responsibilities.

Customer Sales & Profit
  • Responsible for the total OMNI customer experience in your store, ensuring visual and commercial curation according to global guidelines.
  • Represent the H&M brand positively during customer interactions.
  • Be aware of and take responsibility for your department's strengths and commercial opportunities and act on them.
  • Establish and analyze sales and budget goals, creating plans to optimize results.
  • Ensure customer service is provided in all areas of the store and that your team actively promotes and sells products to customers.
  • Ensure frequent promotion of our Customer Loyalty App (Hello Member) and in‑store sustainability initiatives.
  • Manage your department in a cost‑efficient way.
  • Maintain correct routines in fitting room and checkout, including transactions, returns and exchanges.
  • Handle all admin routines for people and operations correctly.
Fashion & Trend Awareness
  • Keep up‑to‑date with fashion scene, trends, styles, brands, products, competitors and relevant influencers.
  • Ensure your team provides product and fashion knowledge during customer interactions.
Team & Development
  • Recruit, onboard, manage performance, upskill and develop your team in‑store.
  • Complete performance evaluations and succession planning to support business and team needs.
  • Retain and share your knowledge and skills with your team.
  • Collaborate, plan and work with the Visual Merchandiser team.
  • Give and receive feedback with colleagues to learn, develop and support each other.
  • Plan and schedule the team.
  • Communicate daily, weekly meetings to motivate and inspire store colleagues.
  • Ensure all procedures, routines and legal requirements in all areas of the store are followed.
  • Participate in relevant onboarding and training processes for your role and future development.
Retail Operations / Visual & Commercial Execution
  • Secure a clean and tidy sales floor and back‑of‑house, including stockroom areas.
  • Present high‑fashion quality visuals with good garment care.
  • Maintain good stock levels and provide input on allocation to the Area team.
  • Ensure the full garment cycle – from delivery to presentation – and fitting‑room routines meet internal standards.
  • Maintain best practice for OMNI services and in‑store tech tools (Instore Care App, Click & Collect, Smart Store).
  • Balance and maintain price signs following global and local strategies and requirements.
  • Update and upkeep BOH areas for all colleagues.
  • Open and close the store daily.

Compensation: expected base salary range is $18.98-$22.39 hourly**
