Responsibilities

• Effectively lead the store as Manager on Duty and provide direction, coaching, and support to team members.
• Take ownership of an assigned department or business function and ensure expectations are consistently met.
• Monitor results within the assigned area, identify opportunities, and partner with store management on solutions.
• Train and coach team members on procedures related to the assigned area of responsibility.
• Reinforce expectations for neighbor service, teamwork, productivity, and professionalism.
• Assist with onboarding, training, and development of team members.
• Support opening and closing procedures, cash controls, deposits, and back-office responsibilities.
• Support daily stocking and down stocking, truck processing, merchandising, inventory accuracy, price changes, animal care, and store readiness.
• Maintain standards for cleanliness, safety, security, and store conditions.
• Communicate performance, staffing, operational, and safety concerns to store management.
• Support additional store priorities as directed by the Assistant Store Team Leader or Store Team Leader.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned based on the needs of the business.

The Department Manager is an intermediate leadership position that builds upon the responsibilities of a Shift Supervisor. Department Managers effectively lead the store as Manager on Duty (MOD) while taking increased ownership and accountability for an assigned area of the business, such as inventory management, pet care, merchandising, or another operational priority.

Key Responsibilities-

• Effectively lead the store as Manager on Duty and provide direction, coaching, and support to team members.
• Take ownership of an assigned department or business function and ensure expectations are consistently met.

Leadership Expectations-

Department Managers are expected to take ownership beyond the individual shift. In addition to effectively serving as Manager on Duty, they are accountable for consistent execution and improvement within their assigned area of responsibility.

Department Managers should demonstrate increased problem-solving, follow-up, and leadership capabilities while continuing to develop the skills necessary for broader store leadership.

Qualification-

• Previous retail or customer service experience required; leadership experience preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lead team members and hold others accountable to expectations.
• Ability to independently manage an assigned area of responsibility.
• Dependable with reliable transportation.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs.
• Ability to climb ladders, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to safely operate required store equipment after completing appropriate training.
