Job Purpose

The Group Lead works as part of a team performing multiple duties for the production and assembly of windows and/or entry door products. This team member’s assigned team and tasks will vary based on business necessity.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Flexibility of work hours including mandatory overtime when business needs require.
  • Ability to learn and rotate to different tasks and/or positions with varying physical requirements.
  • Ability to move to different lines and responsibilities.
  • Ability to safely work with and around moving equipment.
  • Ability to communicate in a concise, polite and respectful manner with team members.
  • Regular and dependable attendance consistent with company guidelines is required.
  • Perform standard work within predetermined cycle times while adhering to accuracy and quality standards.
  • Operate equipment/tools that require close control, adjustment, following production orders.
  • Comply with safety, quality, and production requirements and procedures.
  • Meet the physical requirements of the job.
  • Learn and perform repetitive job tasks.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance duties.
  • Maintain good housekeeping.
  • Inspect product for quality.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Pass a drug screen.
  • Pass pre‑employment tests.
  • Pass pre‑work ability/modification functional capacity screen, if required for the position.
  • Successful completion of pre‑screen testing (mechanical, following instructions, numerical computation), if required for the position.
  • Manufacturing related experience is preferred.
  • Job specific experience is preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Decision making/problem solving in a manufacturing environment with minimal supervision.
  • Use of hand tools and machinery is required.
  • Requires above average communication skills and the cognitive ability to learn safety, quality, and productivity standards.
  • Familiarity with American units of measure for weight, time, and distance.
  • Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with ten’s and hundred’s.

Developmental Competencies

Incumbents must be able to identify and differentiate between individual parts: frame, sash, and accessory raw materials, colors, and corresponding parts; production labels and production cart numerical system; various machine operations on the line.

  • Ability to locate and comprehend information provided on labels, specifically style of window (DH, SH, PC, DS, EV), glass color, glass size and match to label.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend and adjust production schedule from optimizer.
  • Must understand orientation and type of glass being used.
  • Must be able to comprehend and memorize corresponding spacer and thickness specifications.
  • Must know how to reject glass and print repair label.
  • Must be able to place product in proper unit on production racks.
  • Ability to produce glass at rate of 50 units per hour to proper length with minimal waste.
  • Must be able to successfully complete any task on glass production line while supervising production.

Physical Requirements
  • Stand continuously and walk frequently during each shift.

  • Push or pull with up to 45 lbs. of force on an occasional basis when moving products.
  • Generate up to 25 lbs. of grip strength on an occasional basis with each hand while handling products.
  • Generate up to 15 lbs. of pinch strength on an occasional basis with each hand while handling products.
  • Display average eye‑hand coordination while using both hands on a continuous basis while performing job tasks.
  • Use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Perform elevated work on an occasional basis when handling products.
  • Stoop, kneel or squat on an occasional basis when handling products.
  • Reach forward and to the side frequently when handling products.
  • Stand continuously and walk frequently during each shift.
  • Able to stand and perform repetitive tasks up to 12 hours per day.
