Job summary

Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis seeks a Department Head for Nursing. This full-time, fiscal year tenure-track faculty appointment provides leadership, planning, and advocacy for faculty and programs within the Nursing unit.

The Department Head will shape hiring, tenure, promotion, retention and evaluation, supervise curriculum and budgets, and collaborate with other colleges to articulate programs.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing is required.
  • Five years of full-time teaching experience.
  • Three years administrative/supervisory experience in higher education or clinical settings.
  • Current RN license in Tennessee or a compact state.
  • Background check required.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates programs and networks with community agencies by serving on various committees/boards and conducts professional development activities.
  • Supervises the development of Institutional Effectiveness departmental plans; resolves student, faculty, and staff problems to the extent possible.
  • Supervises all evaluation and personnel academic activities conducted by the department.
  • Prepares and delivers lecture on one course per semester.
  • Serves on Division and College wide committees; collaborates with area colleges to articulate programs.
  • Develops and monitors departmental budgets including grants, goals and plans; and develops class schedules each semester.
  • Facilitates curriculum development; the hiring of full-time and adjunct faculty; and makes teaching assignments each term.
  • Supervises curriculum implementation.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

This is a full-time, fiscal year tenure track faculty appointment with management and supervisory responsibilities as the Department Head of Nursing. The Department Head provides leadership, management, planning, and advocacy for faculty and programs within the unit. He/she is responsible for formulating and communicating recommendations for hiring, tenure, promotion, retention and evaluation of faculty and departmental support staff.

Job Duties

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Five (5) years of full-time teaching experience.
  • Three (3) years experience in an administrative/supervisory capacity preferably in higher education or a clinical setting.
  • A background check will be required for the successful candidate.
  • Valid, unencumbered RN license in Tennessee or a compact state.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for students and the measurement of training effects.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Ability to lead strategic planning, program accreditation review as necessary, and assessment in the interest of promoting academic program excellence.
  • Ability to develop and communicate goals in support of the College's mission.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, including the ability to master complex issues and convey information clearly for varied audiences.
