Job summary

Southwest Tennessee Community College seeks a Department Chair for Communications, Graphics, and Fine Arts to provide academic leadership, manage operations, and advance instructional quality across communication studies, graphic design, visual arts, and related disciplines.

The chair will guide curriculum and assessment, oversee faculty and staff, coordinate scheduling, support student success and transfer pathways, and represent the department within the college and community.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a related field.
• Five years of full-time teaching experience in higher education.
• Background check required.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic leadership and strategic planning for the department.
• Oversee curriculum development, program review, and scheduling.
• Recruit, hire, onboard, and mentor full-time and adjunct faculty.
• Support student success through advising, exhibitions, portfolios, and community engagement.
• Ensure compliance with accreditation and institutional policies.
• Manage departmental budgets, facilities, and external funding opportunities.
