Job Purpose: The Department Chair, in collaboration with the Dean of Learning and Instruction, ensures the workforce relevancy, quality, and continuous improvement of Calbright Business Programs.

Location: Remote, various locations throughout California

Salary Range: Faculty salary schedule placement (depending on qualification and education) + 15% $95,830.65 - $132,067.15

Position Overview

The Department Chair position supports Calbright College’s mission of offering competency-based, workforce-relevant programs for adult learners through high-impact, industry-aligned practices in online, skills-based curriculum and assessment. In collaboration with the Dean of Learning and Instruction, the Department Chair ensures program quality, workforce relevancy, and continuous improvement of Business Programs.

The Department Chair provides domain-level leadership to cross-functional faculty teams, applies data-driven program oversight, and ensures alignment with industry standards, accreditation requirements, and workforce needs. This role requires curriculum planning, faculty development, data reporting, and program effectiveness, while leading efforts in workforce alignment, competency-based education, and data-informed decision-making.

The Department Chair will foster internal and external relationships, including academic advisory council members, subject matter experts, industry partners, and other stakeholders to enhance student success, program innovation, and institutional growth. The role involves working with leadership to establish operational objectives and positively impact student outcomes, program quality, enrollment, and overall performance. The Department Chair is also responsible for ensuring student success and meeting key program performance metrics.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

The duties below are representative of the role and are not exhaustive.

  • Ensure program initiatives align with Calbright’s mission and vision.
  • Lead regular program meetings to review quality, improvement, and student success metrics.
  • Support adjunct faculty in setting SMART goals to support student success.
  • Ensure programs meet accreditation standards, regulations, and policies.
  • Be qualified to teach in relevant disciplines and provide content expertise as needed.
  • Oversee adjunct faculty, including reviews, approvals, training, mentorship, and escalations.
  • Partner with teams to design and improve the student experience using an equity-centered approach.
  • Review student and course feedback to inform improvements.
  • Ensure programs incorporate support structures to improve retention and completion.
  • Lead the program review process, including data analysis and stakeholder engagement.
  • Use data to validate quality, analyze student outcomes, and track trends.
  • Work with teams to ensure program outcomes and assessments are relevant and rigorous.
  • Prepare faculty for program launches and establish expectations for quality and engagement.
  • Lead external advisory councils and industry collaborations for program alignment.
  • Maintain relevance in the discipline through certifications, professional development, and networking.
  • Select external subject matter experts for curriculum and program development.
  • Perform other duties supporting the position’s objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field and 3 years of industry experience.
  • Current relevant certifications as appropriate.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business and 3 years of industry experience.
  • Experience with competency-based curricula.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories or online teaching.
  • Three years of progressive experience in instruction or industry, including supervisory roles.

Working Conditions and Travel

  • Primarily remote work with online instruction and support. Occasional in-person meetings or events may be required.
  • Regular attendance is essential.
  • Mandated reporter under California law; compliance required.
