Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s State Correctional Institution Camp Hill is seeking a Dentist to safeguard inmate dental health, deliver examinations, treatments, and lead a dental team. You will work a standard 37.5‑hour week (8:00 AM–4:00 PM, Mon–Fri) with no evenings or weekends, and you’ll be supported by PA licensure and state benefits.

THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the dental health of inmates by providing examinations, treatments, and leadership within the clinic. It ensures high-quality care, strong teamwork, and ongoing improvement in dental services. As a Dentist, you will perform the following duties:

• Clinical Care: Conduct periodontal exams, diagnose oral conditions, and provide restorative and preventative treatments
• Patient Guidance: Explain medical histories, care instructions, and treatment plans to inmate patients
• Staff Leadership: Direct the work of dental assistants and hygienists, offer training, and evaluate performance
• Operational Review: Examine schedules, records, laboratory results, and grievances to maintain standards and improve quality
• Supply Oversight: Manage inventory, approve new supply needs, and maintain proper security and tool control
• General Duties: Carry out additional assigned responsibilities as needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information

• Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch break. You will not be required to work evenings, weekends, or on-call duties.
• Eligible for full retirement benefits as early as age 55
• DEA License renewal and liability insurance is covered by the Commonwealth
• Up to 50 hours of additional paid leave for job-related continuing medical education
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

• Graduation from an approved school of dentistry.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirement

• You must possess a license to practice dentistry issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.

Other Requirements

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements

• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
