Job description

Overview

A Pediatric Dentist provides oral care and treatment for children from infancy through their teenage years. The Pediatric Dentist is expected to provide quality pediatric care.

Evening and Weekend Shift Differential

Evening and weekend shifts (4 hours) with direct patient contact include a 10% pay differential in addition to your regular pay. Evening differential is paid only for completed 4-hour shifts that begin after 4:00 PM.

Responsibilities
  • Performing oral examinations and corrective care for children, including dental exams, repairing cavities, diagnosing oral conditions, and developing treatment plans.
  • Habit counseling (for example, pacifier use and thumb sucking).
  • Fabricating space maintainers designed for patients.
  • Treating primary and secondary teeth and constructing and placing bridges, dentures, and obturating appliances suitable for growing arches.
  • Providing dental care to infants through their teenage years.
  • Diagnosing oral conditions associated with diseases such as diabetes, congenital heart defects, asthma, hay fever, and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
  • Managing gum diseases and conditions including ulcers, short frenulae, mucoceles, and pediatric periodontal disease.
  • Caring for dental injuries (for example, fractured, displaced, or knocked-out teeth).
  • Working with parents to educate them about oral hygiene habits that last for a lifetime and help children maintain their dental health.
  • Advising parents on preventative dental health measures for their children and educating them on cleaning and flossing teeth.
  • Providing dietary counseling and arranging for educational services for their communities.
  • Delivering significant pediatric dental health information.
  • Conducting risk assessments for dental ailments in both mother and child.
  • Using EPIC Electronic Health Records System and digital Dexis X-ray system.
  • Delivering high-quality care to patients.
  • Providing dental care to the pediatric special needs population as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • Must possess an active DDS/DMD License to practice in California and BLS Certification DEA License.
  • Graduate of an ADA Accredited Dental School.
  • Completed a Pediatric Dentistry residency program.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in pediatric dentistry.
  • Prior experience working in a community health environment is a plus.
  • EPIC Electronic Health Records experience is a plus.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Must know how to put children at ease in what is often a stressful situation.
  • Must be compassionate and patient.
  • Proficient in taking digital x-rays.
  • Flexible to work evenings and weekends as necessary in our San Rafael and/or Novato Clinics.
  • Must possess good interpersonal skills to maintain and establish good relationships with the dental team and patients.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced Community Health Clinic environment.
  • Must be comfortable working in a multilingual/multicultural setting.
  • Ability to mentor general dentists in the field of Pediatric Dentistry.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Finger dexterity, steady arms and hands, good near vision, and the ability to discern reverse images.
  • Prolonged standing, stooping, twisting, bending, and reaching.
  • May be required to occasionally lift at least 20 - 25 lbs.
