Job summary

Job Description

Job Title: Dentist


Reports To: Dental Director


FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Classification: On-Call


Schedule: As needed


Location: Onsite, position may be assigned to work at both IHC locations



SUMMARY

As part of the on‑call pool of General Dentists, this position will fill in for dentists on PTO, leave of absence, or out due to illness. Primary responsibility will be diagnosing and treating diseases, injuries and malformations of teeth and gums, and related oral structures by performing the following duties.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  1. 1. Performs patient examinations and oral cancer screening.

  2. 2. Educates patient in oral and dental hygiene.

  3. 3. Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of dental diseases, injuries and malformations of the oral cavity and surrounding tissues.

  4. 4. Oral manifestations of systemic diseases will be treated in conjunction with appropriate consultation and referral to the patient's physician. Routinely screened for hypertension and refer as needed.

  5. 5. Provide routine dental care to all eligible patients as outlined by the IHC eligibility grid. Services include general operative procedures, prosthodontics, removable prosthetics, endodontic, oral surgery, preventive and educational services. Administers anesthetic for dental procedures.

  6. 6. Provides timely emergency treatment for all eligible patients according to dental emergency treatment protocol.

  7. 7. Attends continuing dental education to maintain a current dental license and to be informed of new techniques and philosophies.

  8. 8. Maintains a current CPR, dental license and DEA certification.

  9. 9. Rotates to Santa Ysabel site as needed.

  10. 10. Participates in all department educational development activities to include but not limited to CQI, chart audits, referral follow up and departmental policies and procedure development.

  11. 11. Assists with in service training, as needed.

  12. 12. Maintains and practices confidentiality at all times.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises assigned assistant and such supervisory responsibility delegated by Dental Director. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.



TRAVEL & DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

Travel and driving are not required for this position.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE


  • Graduate of an accredited dental school.

  • Two (2) years dentistry experience beyond school of dentistry preferred.



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGULATIONS


  • Must have a current California dental license.

  • DEA license.

  • Current CPR certification: ACLS and PALS preferred; or attain within 6 months of hire.

  • A valid California driver’s license and a good driving record will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

  • Applicants must successfully pass a pre‑employment physical exam, tuberculin skin test or x-ray and urine drug screen test.

  • Health must be adequate to perform all duties of the position.

  • Must pass criminal background check.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

Must be proficient in the following:



  • Productivity Software: Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Teams (messaging, virtual meetings, file sharing) and Share Point.

  • Proficiency in EHR software; EPIC MyChartand QSI preferred.

  • Paycom and PolicyTech utilization.



Indian Preference shall be given in accordance with IHC’s Policies and Procedures.
