Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine from an approved school.
  • The school must be listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or accepted by a state licensing authority, including foreign schools with appropriate certification.
  • Completion or current enrollment in a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience.
  • Current or will obtain a full, unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.

Preferred Experience: Board certification is preferred but not required.

Duties Include: Oversight of 2 OMS residents from Meharry and Vanderbilt; practice includes complex extraction cases, dental implants, bone grafting, TMJ treatment, facial pain, benign pathology, pre-prosthetic surgery, and collaboration with staff dentists and specialists.

Physical Requirements: Office-based, sedentary work; no manual labor required; must be capable of using a computer for electronic clinical charting.

Duties

  • Proficiency in general dentistry and selected specialty services, including radiographic diagnosis, oral pathology, local anesthesia, sedation, extractions, alveoloplasty, implant placement, treatment of maxillofacial tumors, TMJ management, facial fracture repair, digital systems, bone grafting, operative H&P, BLS, and ACLS.
  • Oversight of residents, with practice scope defined through credentialing and privileging.
  • Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM CST.
