POSITION SUMMARY
The Dentist serves as clinical authority on all matters related to the delivery of dental services at thefacility; provides oral health care to patients such as fillings, extractions, dentures, root canals, etc.; andprovides direction, guidance, and oversight to the dental staff.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides overall supervision of the dental department including hiring, orienting, training, coaching,
counseling, administering discipline and termination of subordinate staff as needed.
2. Performs all general dentistry services including, but not limited to preventive, restorative, surgical,periodontal, endodontic and prosthodontic services as described by facility policy.
3. Supervises staff in: cleaning of teeth, making impressions for prosthetic devices, planning andmaintaining an oral hygiene program, completing appropriate records accurately and all proceduresassociated with the provision of dental care.
4. Performs and interprets radiographic examinations as indicated.
5. Arranges proper referral for procedures that cannot be performed on-site at facility.
6. Compiles and submits monthly report of Dental Department activities.
7. Participates in staff development programs.
8. Develops and updates departmental policies and procedures.
9. Forwards all outside referrals of offenders to the Medical Director to assure the necessity for suchreferrals.
10. Determines the timeframes for non-emergent and elective treatments according to priority,availability and administrative guidelines. Determines the appropriateness of non-routine treatmentand ensure that such treatment will not interfere with the provision of greater priority services.
11. Documents patient examination findings on standard forms, utilizing applicable dental classificationsystems (i.e., APHA).
12. Responsible for dental office security to include instrument, medicine and needle counts.
13. Notifies the HSA and/or Wexford Health Staffing Department of vacant or upcoming vacant positionsin a timely manner and actively assists in the filling of vacant positions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The following requirements list the minimum to qualify. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
LICENSING:Current valid Nebraska Dental license and current DEA license
CERTIFICATION:Board Certified or Board Eligible; Current CPR Certification
EDUCATION:Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DDM) degree
EXPERIENCE:Minimum 1 year practicing dentistry; skilled in recognizing the symptoms ofshock and fainting; must be prepared to provide necessary aid as directedduring procedures. Correctional experience preferred. Supervisory experience
preferred.
