Job summary

The Department of Homeland Security, ICE IHSC is seeking a licensed dentist (DMD/ DDS) for locations including Miami, FL. Applicants must hold ADA/CODA‑accredited degree, NBDE, and a current license, with one or more years of professional dentistry experience at GS‑12 level or above.

Other requirements include color vision, ability to distinguish shades, Basic Life Support certification, and fluent English; bilingual skills preferred.

Organizational Location: These positions are located in the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Health Services Corps (IHSC), in Conroe, Texas; Jena, Louisiana; Los Fresnos, Texas; Miami, Florida; Pearsall, Texas.

Salary will be set using Title 38 pay authority, based upon the special qualifications of the selectee. The Title 38 salary range for this position is shown above.

Basic Requirements

A. Successfully completed a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. B. Successfully passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. C. In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, applicants must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level and above assignments.

Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position.

D. Be able to distinguish shades of color.

For GS-14

Applicant must demonstrate they possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent public or private sector experience performing duties such as:

• Performing oral surgery of various types;
• Working with the infection control process;
• Managing dental programs with minimal assistance;
• Providing general dentistry services.

Additional Requirements

BLS: Applicants must possess or be able to obtain a current Basic Life Support (BLS), Healthcare Provider certification, for credentialing clearance.

Language Proficiency: You must be able to understand, speak, read, and write English fluently. Bilingual communication capability is preferred.

On-Call: You must be willing to participate in the emergency on-call process, to include duty hours, after duty hours, designated holidays or other times as directed.
