Job description

Summary

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a dedicated and experienced dentist to manage the Community Care dental program. This position offers a unique opportunity to improve dental care access for Veterans by building and refining external provider relationships that deliver timely, high-quality care when VA capacity is limited.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • Education: A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry from an approved school
  • Residency: Completed or currently completing a residency in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience
  • License: Currently hold or will hold a full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the U.S.
  • English Language Proficiency: Proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d)
  • Preferred Experience: Completion of a GPR or AEGD program, or 5 years' experience in dentistry, with minimum 3 years of clinical experience, preferably including VA or public health experience
  • Knowledge of VA Community Care policies, dental eligibility, and experience managing dental referrals
  • Familiarity with VA's electronic health record systems
  • Experience with quality assurance and performance improvement in dental care
  • Physical Requirements: Light lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, use of fingers, walking, standing, visual and hearing capabilities
Duties

This is an open continuous announcement valid until July 30, 2025, with initial cutoff on July 11, 2025. Applications received after this date will be considered as vacancies occur. Responsibilities include managing community care dental activities, ensuring compliance with policies, providing clinical care, and supporting administrative functions such as scheduling and exams. The position involves performing a wide range of dental procedures, including examinations, restorations, extractions, prosthetics, endodontics, and periodontal treatments.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Telework is ad-hoc; this is not a virtual position.
