Job description

Summary: The Dentist shall be responsible for the overall clinical management and activities of their patients. Collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer on the overall function of the Dental Department.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: All duties are subject to accommodation in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

  1. Diagnose and treat all patients presenting with malfunctions of the teeth and gums related to oral structures.
  2. Examine patients to determine the nature of their condition, utilizing x-rays, dental instruments, and other diagnostic tools.
  3. Provide preventive dental services to patients.
  4. Responsible for follow-up care and referrals for patients receiving dental services.
  5. Follow all guidelines outlined in the Dental Infection Control Protocol Book and participate in any SWCHC Infection Control Committee meetings as required.
  6. Serve as a consultant to all Dental Department staff, including faculty and students at the University of Bridgeport FONES School of Dental Hygiene during their clinical rotation at SWCHC.
  7. Adhere to procedures and policies outlined in the Dental Department’s Standards of Clinical Practice Book.
  8. Participate in staff meetings, quality assurance programs, case conferences, and all meetings as required.
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities as required.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • CPR/BLS Certification required.

Special Skills and Acknowledgments:

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent diagnostic and judgment-making skills.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Currently licensed to practice dentistry in the State of Connecticut.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: The physical requirements include manual dexterity to operate phones, computers, and office equipment, the ability to kneel, bend, perform light lifting, and communicate clearly in English. Vision abilities include close vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. The work environment is generally safe with minimal hazards. Travel may be required.
