GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

This role reports to the Lead Dentist and is responsible for ensuring the quality and quantity of dental services provided directly to patients. In the absence of the Lead Dentist, this position also performs administrative duties as delegated by the Lead Dentist.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF POSITION DUTIES:

Provides direct patient care, including examinations, interpreting dental x-rays, fillings, and extractions.

Regularly consults with the Lead Dentist to plan, evaluate, and implement dental care and standards of practice.

Supervises Assistants in scheduling patients and collecting fees.

Participates in quality assurance committees and helps maintain the department’s standards of practice, including quality assurance reviews (QARs) of patient electronic dental records (EDR), therapeutics, and peer reviews if necessary.

Ensures the accuracy and integrity of each patient’s EDR, reviewing entries made by assistants for accuracy and completeness.

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Ability to supervise and direct personnel.

Sensitivity to the needs of patients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Professional Degree in Dental Medicine (DDS or DMD).

Licensed to practice in the State of Georgia.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls, and talk or hear.

Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and the risk of radiation.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
