Job summary

Management & Training Corporation (MTC) is seeking a licensed dentist to lead the medical dental department at the Bluebonnet Detention Center in Anson, TX. You will supervise a dental team and deliver preventive and corrective care to detainees in accordance with ICE standards.

You will coordinate scheduling, maintain records, and collaborate with health services staff to educate patients and ensure high-quality dental care.

Qualifications

• DDS or DMD degree and valid license to practice dentistry with DEA registration in Texas
• Two years of general clinical practice strongly preferred
• Current CPR certification
• Texas driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Responsibilities

• Supervise the dental assistant and provide preventive and corrective dental care to detainees in compliance with ICE standards
• Provide guidance and technical supervision to dental hygienists and dental assistants
• Maintain an effective clinical patient scheduling and record-keeping system and prepare reports
• Coordinate patient education programs and services for health staff
• Refer patients to oral health specialists for consultations and treatments
• Maintain confidentiality of all patients' medical records
• Ensure compliance with facility policies and procedures and safety practices
• May act as radiation safety officer as designated by health services administrator

What you’ll do

You’ll supervise the dental assistant and be responsible for providing preventive and corrective dental care to detainees in compliance with MTC Medical and customer directives.

Essential Functions

• Provide dental diagnostic and treatment services to detainees, using current knowledge of methods, practices, procedures and techniques of providing quality diagnosis and treatment in accordance with ICE standards. Document all treatment accurately, legibly and promptly.
• Provide guidance and technical supervision to dental hygienists and dental assistants performing direct and indirect patient care services, coordinate clinic operations with the health services administrator.
• Maintain an effective clinical patient scheduling and record-keeping system; maintain records on clinic operations and prepare required reports, as needed. Schedule patients in accordance with ICE guidelines.
• Coordinate and participate in patient education programs and services; provide consultation, guidance, and in-service education to other health services staff.
• Refer patients to oral health specialists for consultations, evaluations and treatments.
• Adhere to established corporate, facility and correctional policies and procedures in making decisions, while using sound independent judgment in performing the duties of the position.
• Maintain security and confidentiality of all patients' medical records.
• Implement basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations.
• Comply with all applicable pharmacy regulations, especially those regarding controlled substances.
• Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
• Facilitate, where applicable, NCCHC/ACA accreditation of the health services program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved appropriate dental services.
• Maintain equipment and supplies.
• Provide orientation for new dental staff concerning the facility dental program.
• May act as the radiation safety officer as designated by the health services administrator.
• Requires prolonged periods of walking and standing.
• Regular attendance is required.
• Promote the development of positive social skills among staff and detainees through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
• Maintain accountability of detainees and property; adhere to safety practices. It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education And Experience Requirements

Requires DDS or DMD degree and valid license to practice dentistry with DEA registration in the state of Texas and current CPR certification. Two (2) years of general clinical practice strongly preferred. Must successfully complete the required preservice training. Valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management
