Job summary

Management & Training Corporation in Livingston, Texas seeks a Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team at correctional facilities. You will assist with patient intake, record vital signs, prepare detainees for examinations, and support providers to ensure smooth patient flow.

Requirements include a High School diploma or GED, Medical Assistant certification, CPR certification, and a valid Texas driver’s license.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist in coordinating movement of detainees to and from areas for medical treatment.

• Prepare detainees for examinations and assist nurse or provider during examination.
• Ensure Providers have seamless flow of patients, supplies, charts and equipment.
• Explain treatment procedures and provide education on condition and plan.
• Chart medical care accurately and maintain entries.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist in coordinating movement of detainees to and from different areas for medical treatment.
• Take and record vital signs and medical history of assigned detainees.
• Prepare detainees for examinations and assist nurse or provider during examination.
• Work efficiently to ensure providers have seamless flow of patients, and supplies, charts and equipment are readily available.
• Explain treatment procedures to detainees; provide education on condition, treatment or treatment plan.
• Properly chart medical care consistent with scope of practice and ensure completeness and accuracy of entries.
• Administer oral medications.
• Provide assistance to Infirmary detainees as instructed, and accurately enter treatment provided in medical record.
• Perform complex and technical procedures under nursing supervision, such as unsterile dressing changes, superficial wound care, performing urine and finger stick glucose tests.
• Set up and operate therapeutic equipment; instruct and supervise detainees in various therapies.
• Assist in the maintenance of a safe, comfortable facility environment; obtain and store medical supplies; clean and sterilize instruments and equipment.
• Ensure supply security, replace facility working stock, maintain the upkeep of facility supply room and medical equipment, and maintain inventory PAR levels.
• Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of medical records. Observe applicable HIPAA laws.
• Practice basic cost containment and utilization management techniques.

Education And Experience Requirements

High school graduate or GED. Current Medical Assistant Certification or registry from an accredited medical assistant program recognized by the state of Texas required. CPR certification required. Current registration or Certification must be kept on file with administrative staff at facility. Valid driver’s license in the State of Texas with an acceptable driving record required.
