Job Details

Dental Surgical Assistant to members of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the resident staff. Provide chairside surgical support for oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures and facial pain physicians. Perform a wide variety of oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures competently.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Providing surgical support to the oral and maxillofacial surgeon during procedures and supporting facial pain physicians.
  2. Sterilizing instrumentation and preparing tray setups, including setting up required instruments in a sterile environment.
  3. Maintaining logs for inspections and certifications per OMFS workflows.
  4. Reprocessing and sterilizing equipment and preparing tray setups according to protocol.
  5. Maintaining sterile technique while assisting in sterile OMFS procedures.
  6. Proficiently taking and documenting radiographs such as CBCT, peri-apical, and Panorex x-rays, following clinical policies and workflows to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  7. Maintaining patient electronic medical records per OMFS charting workflows.
  8. Ensuring patient safety by following BLS guidelines and maintaining current BLS certification.

Job Requirements:

  • Education: High School Diploma.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years preferred, especially in an oral and maxillofacial surgery practice. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, knowledge of medical terminology, and experience dealing with medically compromised individuals.
  • Certifications: Pennsylvania certification in Oral Radiology within 90 days of hire, BLS certification through American Heart Association, and an accredited dental assisting program certification is preferred.
