Job summary

Indianapolis Oral Surgery is seeking a full-time Dental Surgery Assistant to join our state-of-the-art practice. You will assist oral and maxillofacial surgeons in outpatient procedures, prepare patients and instruments, manage supplies, and support patient education.

The ideal candidate has a BLS certification, a dental program or equivalent experience, and strong communication and multitasking abilities. This in-person role offers a comprehensive benefits package and growth opportunities

• A valid Driver’s License is required.

• Completed Dental Program or comparable experience.

Responsibilities

• Functions as surgical scrub technician for outpatient oral and maxillofacial procedures.
• Prepares patients and surgical instruments for procedures.
• Gathers, checks and opens supplies and equipment.
• Places IVs for sedation and assists with medication administration.
• Calculates and administers IV medications per surgeon order.
• Sets up the procedure table with instruments, supplies and meds.
• Anticipates needs of the surgeon and passes instruments during procedures.
• Circulates in the operatory to ensure patient needs and documentation are met.
• Enters procedural notes into EMR and provides pre/post-operative education.
• Assists surgeon with specialized equipment such as Medit scanner.
• Captures CBCT/Panoramic X-rays and sterilizes equipment per protocol.
• Assembles surgical trays and ensures OSHA/DHEC/HIPAA compliance.
• Maintains highest level of customer service and office etiquette.

Job Summary

Under direct supervision, provides surgical and technical assistance to oral and maxillofacial surgeons in the treatment of patients requiring oral and maxillofacial procedures.

Essential Job Functions/Duties

• Functions as surgical scrub technician for outpatient surgical procedures carried out by oral and maxillofacial surgeons
• Prepares patients and surgical instruments for outpatient oral and maxillofacial procedures.
• Gathers, checks and opens supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure
• Places IVs for sedation and assists the surgeon with medication administration during sedation procedures.
• Calculates and administers IV medication upon surgeon order
• Sets up the procedure table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for the procedure
• Anticipates and gathers additional instrumentation, equipment and supplies for use during procedures
• Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedure
• When not directly assisting with the surgical procedure, the surgical technician circulates in the operatory to assure all patient needs and documentation requirements are met
• Enters procedural notes on all patients into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
• Provides pre-operative and post-operative education to patient and caregiver
• Assists surgeon in utilizing specialized equipment i.e. Medit scanner
• Captures CBCT/Panoramic X-rays
• Sterilizes equipment with ultrasonic cleaner and autoclave per manufacturer’s directions.
• Assemble surgical trays in preparation for the day’s cases
• Ensures OSHA/DHEC/HIPAA requirements are maintained
• Ensures highest level of customer service and office etiquette is used
• Participates in clinical in-service/training opportunities when available
• Completes required annual training
• All other duties as assigned by management

Preferred Qualifications

• X-ray Certification
• DAANCE Certification (must obtain at 6 months of employment)
