Job summary

Marin Community Clinics is seeking a Dental Sterilizer Technician to sterilize dental instruments and prepare operatories for procedures. The role emphasizes OSHA-compliant sterilization, instrument handling, and cross-training in dental support tasks.

This is a part-time evening position supporting patient care in a multi-clinic network. The schedule runs Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 5:30pm to 9:30pm, with emphasis on safety, cleanliness, and efficient workflow across the dental

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; infection control certification preferred.
  • Current BLS certification; dental sterilization certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes trays, instruments and treatment room drawers; prepares units for Dentist.
  • Sterilize instruments/headpieces per OSHA regulations and maintain areas.
  • Operate autoclaves safely; document sterilization procedures; assist as needed.
  • Escort patients and prepare operatory setups; cross-train in other roles.

Job description

Marin Community Clinics, founded in 1972, is today, a multi-clinic network with a wide array of integrated primary care, dental, behavioral, specialty and referral services. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we provide vital health services to almost 40,000 individuals annually in Marin County. The Clinics regularly receive national awards from the Health Resources and Services Administrations (HRSA). Dental sterilizer technicianis responsible for the sterilization of all dental instruments used in dental procedures, as well as any instruments laid out for possible use. Dental sterilization technician may also set up and break down dental armamentarium from operatories as needed.

Work Schedule:

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 5:30pm - 9:30pm.

Responsibilities
  • Organizes trays, instruments and treatment room drawers at all times.Prepares dental units for Dentist, stock units and ensures that units are clean at all times.
  • Maintaining the instruments and working areas in strict accordance with sterilization/ disinfection protocols.
  • Sterilize all instruments and headpieces according to OSHA regulations.
  • Preparing and arranging instruments for the sterilization process.
  • Wear heavy-duty utility gloves, a face shield and protective coverings when handling contaminated instruments.
  • Put away and organize dental instruments in operatories for re-use.
  • Operate sterilization machines (Autoclaves) safely, without risking burns or personal injury.
  • Ensure that office sterilization proceduresare documented and posted at all times.
  • Break down, clean and set up operatories as needed to assist the dental assistants.
  • Cross-training in other dental support positions as necessary.
  • Escort patients to treatment room, seat patients and have proper set-up for procedure ready as needed.
  • Conduct pre-patient staff meeting in the morning each day before starting shift.
  • Comply with all OSHA, Dental Boardand MCC policies.
  • Oversee cleanliness of treatment room according to sterilization procedures.
  • Disinfect treatment rooms according to OSHA regulations.
  • Do daily hand piece inventory. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Intermediate computers use experience, including MS Office/MS Outlook.
  • Ability to multitask and follow directions in fast paced clinic environment.
  • Ability to follow directions with high attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Infection control certificate.
  • Current BLS Certificate.
  • Dental Sterilization Certification is preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Fulfill immunization and fit for duty regulatory requirements.
  • May be required to occasionally lift at least 20-25lbs.
  • Prolonged standing, stooping, and reaching.
