Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic in Portland, Oregon seeks a Relief Dental Receptionist to support front-desk operations. You will greet patients, manage charts, schedule appointments, verify insurance, and handle billing and recalls in a fast-paced clinic environment.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma and clinic experience; bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred. Pay ranges from $20.21 to $24.75 per hour, DOE, with bilingual differential compensation if ALTA score is 9.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year's clinic/dental/optometry office experience preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred at ALTA level 9.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional interaction with patients, providers and staff.
  • Basic proficiency with Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of medical/dental terminology and billing/insurance preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Answer phones, transfer calls, and take messages for the clinic.
  • Greet patients, manage logs, and provide translation services as needed.
  • Ensure complete patient data; create and update charts and records.
  • Schedule appointments and notify providers of no-shows/cancellations.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and file documents; answer insurance questions.
  • Respond to patient inquiries in person, by phone, and via portal.
  • Perform routine billing duties and reconcile daily cash.
  • Manage referrals from start to finish.
  • Oversee recall communications for routine care and reminders.
  • Distribute clinic documents to Health Information dept and file records.
  • Prepare treatment plan estimates and collect upfront fees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Highlights:
  • $20.21-$24.75/hour DOE
  • Additional pay for your bilingual skills, paid on hours worked
What You’ll Do:
  • Answers the phone, transfers calls and takes messages as needed for the clinic
  • Greets patients and maintains patient and visitor log. Notifies appropriate person of the patient’s arrival. Provides translation services as needed to patients
  • Ensures accurate and complete data and forms are collected for all patients. Creates and maintains patient charts, registers new patients and updates patient data in the computer
  • Schedules patient appointments according to scheduling guidelines, appointment type, and time needed. Notifies appropriate Provider of all patient no-shows and cancellations. Adjusts and updates the schedule for cancellations, new patients and recall appointments
  • Verifies patient’s insurance eligibility and obtains and files insurance documentation. Assists patients with questions regarding insurance plans as needed
  • Reviews and responds to patients’ questions in person, via phone, and patient portal systems
  • Performs routine billing functions such as posting patient encounters, billing insurance companies, encouraging payment, taking payments and generating end-of-day reports
  • Reviews cash box receipts and reconcile cash box daily
  • Manages the Referral Process, working on referrals from inception through completion
  • Manages the recall process to include follow-up communication to patients for routine preventative care, treatment plan completion, and other appointments as needed
  • Ensures that clinic generated documents are sent to the Health Information department and office related clinic documents are filed in the patient’s record
  • Creates treatment plan estimates, reviews estimates with the patient, and collects upfront fees
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year's experience in a clinic, optometry or dental office preferred
  • This position is eligible for Bilingual Differential Compensation when an ALTA score of 9 is achieved
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred at a level 9
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to interact with patients, Providers and staff in a professional manner
  • Basic proficiency with a variety of computer programs, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Basic knowledge of medical or dental terminology and healthcare billing/insurance preferred
  • Ability to deliver outstanding customer service
