Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Reads prescriptions or specifications and examines models or impressions to determine design of dental products to be constructed.
  • Fabricates, alters, or repairs dental devices such as dentures, crowns, bridges, inlays, or appliances.
  • Utilizes materials such as metal, plaster, porcelain, or acrylic pastes and pours materials into molds or over frameworks to form dental prostheses or apparatuses.
  • Operates CAD/CAM systems and 3D printers and traditional hand tools.
  • Scans dental models to create digital files and instructs workers to use equipment or perform procedures.
  • Meets with dental provider or patients to discuss dental appliances.

DENTISTRY-BUILDING SUPPORT SER (IN-DSBL-IUINA)

The Indiana University (IU) School of Dentistry has been advancing oral health in the state and beyond since 1879, when it was founded as the Indiana Dental College. Over the past 140 years, we've become a national leader in preparing oral health professionals, conducting innovative research that has an impact on patients and the profession, and providing patient-centered care.

The Dental Lab Technician monitors and provides support to faculty and students in educational resource facility (such as laboratory, learning/technology center, etc.) in support of educational and learning outcomes.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Operates various instruments and/or machinery, assists students using permitted equipment, and provides instruction, training, and oversight for safe operation
  • Implements a preventive maintenance program that will keep equipment ready for instructional and research project utilization
  • Cleans, maintains, and properly stores all equipment and supplies
  • Keeps area(s) cleaned and organized
  • Assists students and/or faculty with safely and properly operating equipment, tools, etc.
General Responsibilities

  • Fabricates, alters, or repairs dental devices, such as dentures, crowns, bridges, inlays, or appliances for straightening teeth
  • Utilizes a variety of materials such as metal, plaster, porcelain, or acrylic pastes and pour materials into molds or over frameworks to form dental prostheses or apparatuses
  • Operates traditional hand tools and modern digital technologies such as Computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems and 3D printers
  • Scans dental models to create digital files. Instructs workers to use equipment or perform technical procedures
  • Meets with dental provider or patients to discuss dental appliances
EDUCATION
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
Preferred
  • Associates degree in Dental Technology
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • 2 years of related dental or dental lab experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

  • Certificate in Dental Laboratory Technology

This role requires sedentary work as well as extended durations of moving about the workplace. It requires the ability to move objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and the ability to discern between various objects and devices and to position patients. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$23.00 - 25.00 per hour based on experience and internal equity

7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday
