Job summary

University of Utah is seeking a Dental Lab Technician to join the Prosthodontics team on campus. The role supports fabrication and repair of dentures, partials, crowns and bridges with emphasis on quality and timely processing.

Responsibilities include coordinating with clinic disciplines, CAD/CAM design, and potential teaching/research tasks within an academic dental lab environment. The position is full time with a flexible schedule and a 20-hour per week window determined upon hire.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent required/1 year higher education may substitute for 1 year of related work experience.
• CAD/CAM dental design software and digital workflows preferred.
• Experience in an academic or multi-specialty clinical laboratory setting is a plus.

• Be a contributing member to the Prosthodontic team by promoting effective communication among all clinic disciplines and encouraging students to be better.
• Works under minimal supervision.
• Organizes work to keep production costs competitive with local labs.
• Proficient with computers; Windows experience preferred for data entry/administrative tasks.
• Production focus with potential for research opportunities within the Prosthodontics section.
• Production services: Denture and crown/bridge fabrication and related tasks; same-day relines and repairs.
• CAD/CAM design knowledge and digital workflow is required.
• Educational services: minor dialogue with students/faculty fabricating prosthetics.
• Quality Assurance: assess the quality of student work as needed.
• Research services: provide research support as needed.

Dental Lab Technician

This position completes all laboratory phases for fabricationand/or repair of various dental laboratory products, including butnot limited to dentures, partials, repairs/relines, crown andbridge work. Ensures highest quality, timely processing of all workorders, follows lab prescriptions, and customization ofprostheses.

Responsibilities

3. Organizes his/her work such that the production value is oflesser cost than competing local laboratory's productioncosts

5. This position is primarily a clinical production position withmild educational requirements, with potential for needs inresearch. As such, this position may take on various "service"forms depending on needs of the Section of Prosthodontics asdetermined by the Section Head of Prosthodontics, these "service"forms include, but are not limited to:
6. Production Services: Denture (complete and partial) productionas well as crown and bridge. The incumbent is expected to maintainproduction at the "high range". This includes same day relines,repairs, etc.
7. CAD/CAM design knowledge and digital workflow is required.
8. Educational Services: it is imperative that the fabrication ofquality prosthetics in an academic institution include a minoramount of dialogue with the student/faculty fabricating aprosthetic with the incumbent.
9. Education in Quality Assurance (QA): The incumbent may be askedto assess the quality of student work.
10. Research Services: research is a primary mission of theuniversity, and the incumbent's knowledge is unique and highlyvaluable. The incumbent has the status of an expert inprosthodontics, and therefore his or her knowledge and intuitionwhen contributed to the general body of knowledge is of immensevalue to the University. As such, it is of value for the incumbentto be able to provide research services.

Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher educationcan be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience(Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related workexperience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following joblevels:

Medical Device & Equipment Engineer, IV:Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 8 years or a master's (orequivalency) + 6 years of directly related work experience.

Preferences

Experience with CAD/CAM dental design software and digitalworkflows preferred. Prior experience in an academic ormulti-specialty clinical laboratory setting is a plus.
