Job description

Dental Hygienist Job Description

The Dental Hygienist performs a variety of dental health procedures and patient care activities in accordance with state and local regulations, including:

  1. Performing oral prophylaxis, scaling, root planning, polishing, and applying topical agents such as fluorides, sealants, anesthetics, and desensitizing agents.
  2. Placing localized subgingival antibiotics (Arestin) as approved by the Dentist.
  3. Instructing patients on proper oral hygiene and prosthesis maintenance.
  4. Maintaining periodontal charting via Florida Probe and recording vital signs, medications, and treatment details.
  5. Practicing and maintaining infection control procedures, including sterilization and disinfection.
  6. Assisting in supply management and ordering.
  7. Scheduling patient visits and updating treatment records in EDR.
  8. Conducting peer reviews and assisting with radiograph processing and analysis.
  9. Participating in community health fairs and educational events.
  10. Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Successful performance requires:

  • An Associate degree in Dental Hygiene or related field; Bachelor's preferred.
  • At least three years of experience as a Dental Hygienist; pediatric experience preferred.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist in Texas, CPR, and Jurisprudence certifications up to date.
  • Proficiency with dental software, internet, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to transportation.
Work Environment & Physical Demands

The role involves working in a dental office environment, with direct contact with patients. Physical requirements include bending, stooping, twisting, walking, sitting, standing, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be provided for individuals with disabilities.
