Job Description
Job Title: Registered Dental Hygienist
Department: Dental
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: 30-40 hrs/week 7:15am-6:00pm, no weekends
Location: Round Mountain
Position Summary
Under general supervision of a qualified Dentist in an ambulatory care setting, assesses patient needs, and plans and delivers direct dental care and associated services to patients. Utilizes established dental hygiene protocol and procedures.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned which may become essential to the position.
- Assesses dental condition and needs of patient; uses patient screening procedures, to include medical history review, dental charting, and periodontal charting; takes patient vital signs as required.
- Delivers direct patient care to patients as assigned, using established dental hygienist procedures; intra/extra oral soft tissue exam, performs routine treatment procedures, such as cleaning, polishing, x-rays, application of sealants and fluorides, scaling and root planning, local anesthetic, and related procedures.
- Develops and implements individualized dental care plans for patients; performs patient education, and patient/family teaching under the supervision of a qualified dentist.
- Documents dental history or chief complaint; records and reports pertinent observations.
- Sterilization of instruments; operatory set up/disinfection.
- Performs weekly spore testing of sterilization equipment.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned, to include assistance/back up to all dental staff as needed.
- Assists in maintaining supplies/inventory; ordering supplies as needed, within budget.
- Oversees OSHA /QA compliance within dental department.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Maintain current license through completion of required continuing education courses.
- May participate in outreach services to local schools or Head Starts. Including organization of scheduling and paperwork pertaining to program.
- May participate in overseeing dental hygiene students on rotation through HCC this may include: assisting in dental hygiene treatment, education and follow up reports to school.

Qualifications

Education/Experience
Current licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist in the State of California. Must have good working knowledge and understanding of dental surgery and associated procedures, terminology and techniques. Must demonstrate ability to set up and prepare dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established regulations and guidelines. Ability to set up and prepare dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established regulations and guidelines. Knowledge of patient screening, charting, and medical history procedures and documentation. Ability to perform a full range of established dental hygienist protocol and procedures.
Certificates And Licenses
Current RDH license. Current CPR certification required.
Language Ability
Must have high level language skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret federal, state and institutional regulations and guidelines for the provision of dental outpatient services. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel. Ability to write simple correspondence and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions individually or with groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Math Ability
Must have basic math skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
Reasoning Ability
Must have very high reasoning skills. Ability to independently assess the nature and extent of dental, periodontic, and associated conditions and pathology, and formulate effective therapeutic treatment plans. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft Word. Must have good working knowledge of medical management software.
Equipment Skills
Working knowledge of all standard dental equipment necessary to perform dental hygiene duties, including sterilization equipment and digital radiographs.

The work environment is an indoor business and dental office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with normal dental equipment noises and business office noises, computers, printers and phones. While performing the duties of this job, employee may frequently be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and work near moving mechanical parts; occasionally be exposed to risks of radiation via x-rays, electrical shock and vibration, and chemicals.
