Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) is seeking a part-time Registered Dental Hygienist for our Child & Teen Dental Clinic in Champaign, IL. The role offers flexibility to work at least eight hours per week, with potential for more hours across afternoons and a collaborative public health team.

The position requires an Illinois dental hygiene license and a certificate/diploma from an approved program.

Qualifications

  • Licensed dental hygienist in Illinois required.
  • Certificate or diploma in dental hygiene from an approved program.
  • Current Illinois dental hygienist license required.
  • Willing to obtain Public Health Dental Hygienist Certification within 1 year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a complete dental prophylaxis including exams, cleanings, x-rays, fluoride and OHI for children age 0–19.
  • Administer caries prevention treatments such as sealants.
  • Administer silver diamine fluoride for caries arresting medicaments.
  • Educate patients and families on oral health and home-care instructions.
  • Prepare patient room, sterilize and disinfect equipment according to OSHA and CDC guidelines.
  • Assist with basic office tasks and scheduling.
  • Provide public health education in schools and community events.
  • Mentor pre-dental and community health interns from University of Illinois.

Are you passionate about pediatric dentistry and dedicated to providing exceptional care to children? We are seeking a talented part-time Registered Dental Hygienist to join our Child & Teen Dental Clinic. We're looking for a dependable, licensed dental hygienist who values flexibility and wants to be part of a collaborative public health team. We're seeking someone who can commit to working at least eight (8) hours per week, but beyond that, we're flexible. Whether you're looking for 20 hours per week, three afternoons per week, or another consistent schedule, we'd love to talk with you. We recognize that everyone's availability is different, and we're committed to building a schedule that works for both you and our patients.

Duties and Responsibilities include:
  • Performs a complete dental prophylactic service that includes exams, cleanings, appropriate x-rays, fluoride treatments and OHI (oral hygiene instruction); performs clinical tasks such as documenting and recording procedures performed; performs x-rays, full-mouth periodontal charting and oral cancer screenings for children ages 0-19.
  • Administers approved caries prevention treatments such as sealants to tooth surfaces.
  • Administers caries arresting medicaments such as silver diamine fluoride.
  • Educates on the condition of oral health, options for treatment, effects of treating and/or not treating; provides home care instructions including nutritional counseling.
  • Prepares patient room by restocking, sterilizing, and disinfecting equipment after each use in accordance with OSHA and CDC guidelines.
  • Performs basic office tasks such as filing, checking-in/out patients and scheduling appointments.
  • Provides public awareness of dental care issues in environments such as schools, health fairs, and other public forums.
  • Mentor pre-dental and community health interns from University of Illinois
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Certificate or diploma from a school of dental hygiene approved by the Department of Professional Regulation.
  • Current license to practice as a dental hygienist in the State of Illinois.
  • A valid driver’s license, dependable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance is required.
  • Willing to obtain Public Health Dental Hygienist Certification within 1 year of employment with CUPHD.
  • The expected starting hourly is $35.00. Full hourly salary for a Class 7 Dental Hygienist I is $35.00 – 37.91. The selected candidate will have the flexibility to set their standard work week starting at 8 hours up to 20 hours.
CUPHD provides a comprehensive benefits package which includes:
  • CUPHD offers qualified bilingual employees an additional $3.00 per hour, upon approval.
    • Eligible employees may complete language proficiency testing upon hire and can begin receiving the stipend as soon as they are approved.
