Job description

Description

The Dental Hygienist performs hygienist duties such as examining teeth and other oral structures, cleaning teeth, and topical fluoride and performing radiological procedures. The incumbent serves the target population of the AIDS Care Group to provide acute and chronic care services and public service outreach.

This position is eligible to participate in the ACG Retirement Plan which offers a 100% match on the first 3% and 50% on the following 2%.

Schedule: Mondays and Fridays from 9AM to 4PM.

· Greet and acknowledge patients according to agency standards

· Receive, record and relay messages accurately, completely and legibly

· Speak with others using clear, professional and polite language

· Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others, support the ACG team to reach common goal

· Deliver dental care to patients using established dental hygienist procedures

· Clean calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums, using dental instruments

· Feel and visually examine gums for sores and signs of disease

· Chart conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist

· Feel lymph nodes under patient's chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer

· Apply fluorides or other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay

· Examine gums, using probes, to locate periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease

· Expose and develop x-ray film

· Remove excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth

· Provide clinical services or health education to improve and maintain the oral health of patients

· Maintain dental equipment and sharpen and sterilize dental instruments

· Observe strict adherence to OSHA precautions and work control protocols

· Schedule patients

· Supervise the services on a dental assistant when available

· Complete patient forms and dental records accurately

· Other duties as assigned

Requirements

· Active License to practice dental hygiene in the State of PA

· At least one (1) year experience working as a dental hygienist

· Certification of Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner preferred but not required

· Must be able to comfortably work with people of all lifestyles

Work Conditions:

· Primarily a stationary position

· Occasional stooping, reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching

· Handle emergency or crisis situations
