Job description

Are you a Dental Hygienist wanting to work part-time hours but still be eligible for full-time benefits?

The Iowa Veterans Home is now accepting applications for a Dental Hygienist to join our medical clinic team. This position will work collaboratively with our Dental Assistant and contracted Dentists to provide quality oral healthcare to our Veterans and their spouses that reside in our long term care facility.

Our Dental Hygienist will assist with providing prophylactic dental services, promote oral health and wellness, perform basic oral-health care and dental hygiene, and provide preventative education for residents and staff caring for our Veterans. Applicant will work a minimum of 30 hours per week.

Other duties include but are not limited to:

1. Performs oral prophylaxis, which includes supragingival and subgingival debridement of plaque, and detection and removal of calculus with instruments and or devices, periodontal scaling and root planning, removing and polishing hardened excess restorative material.
2. Review medical and dental health histories at each visit.
3. Provide planning, implementation and evaluation of oral health education programs for individual Residents.
4. Assist dentist in general, restorative, and surgical dental procedures when necessary.
5. Assist in the organization and operation of the dental clinic.
