JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Dental Hygiene -Review health histories. Provide oral hygiene education and diet education for parents and patients. Perform oral examination and identify supra and subgingival calculus. Take and process bitewings and panoramic x-rays. Provide dental prophylaxis and fluoride treatment.

  • Patient Records -Record pertinent patient information in electronic dental record. May also serve as a scribe for the dentists in situations where the dentist is otherwise occupied in the direct care of the patient. When functioning in this capacity, the (assistant, hygienist) will not be engaged in direct patient care and will serve only as the recorder of the specific comments directed by the dentist for inclusion in the medical record, without interpretation or modification.

  • Radiology -Take and develop X-rays including panoramic, cephalometric, periapical, occlusal and bite wing films. Assist in routine maintenance of X-ray processor.

  • Patient Assistance -Anticipate, greet, and seat patient. Instruct patient about pre and post-operative needs and issues. Instruct patient in oral hygiene and fluoride treatment.

  • Equipment Preparation -Assemble trays, maintain hand pieces, and stock each room. Set up, clean and disinfect operatory.

JOB QUALIFICIATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 3+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.

  • Associate Dental Hygiene, Current license to practice in the state

  • CPR

  • Dental Assisting National Boards certificate or Ohio Commission on Dental Assisting certificate
  • prefer Nitrous oxide monitoring certificate (where that is the primary anesthesia)
  • Dental Assistant Technical Education
  • prefer Ohio State Board certificate for Sealants and/or Coronal Polishing
  • prefer Certified Orthodontic Assistant
