Job summary

Alabama A&M University is seeking an experienced Dental Hygienist to deliver preventive care and education within the campus clinic, supporting student wellness and early disease detection. You will perform prophylaxis, radiographs, periodontal treatments, and supervise recall programs while adhering to OSHA/CDC standards.

Responsibilities

• Educate students through oral health workshops and seminars.
• Maintain sterilization logs and ensure OSHA/CDC standards compliance.
• Assist with clinic reporting and data collection.

Summary

The Dental Hygienist plays a critical role in preventive oral care, education, early detection, and student wellness. This provider supports the clinic’s commitment to reducing disease rates among AAMU’s diverse student population.

• Provide prophylaxis, periodontal maintenance, and non-surgical periodontal therapy.
• Perform full-mouth charting, periodontal assessments, oral cancer screenings.
• Take and interpret digital radiographs (FMX, BWX, pano).
• Administer local anesthesia (if licensed).
• Apply fluoride varnish, sealants, and desensitizing agents.
• Deliver oral-health workshops, residence-hall education, and first-year student seminars.
• Educate students on the link between oral health and systemic conditions (hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease).
• Maintain sterilization logs, instrument tracking, and adherence to OSHA/CDC standards.
• Monitor hygiene recall schedules and student follow-up needs.
• Assist with data collection for clinic reporting and metrics.
• Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) with Alabama license.
• CPR certification.
• Strong background in preventive care and patient education.
• Experience with young adult and diverse populations preferred.
