Description

Position Description

The primary function of the Dental Hygienist is to examine, chart, take radiographic surveys, and perform periodontal therapies on patients. The Dental Hygienist reports directly to the Dentists for duty assignments, which include patient care and domestic chores. The Hygienist supervises her own patient therapy but communicates patient needs and appointments with the Dentists and coordinates duties with other dental staff.

Detailed Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform initial intra- and extra-oral exams of the hard and soft tissues.
• Document and chart existing restorations, carious lesions, and other findings.
• Complete health history assessments, including blood pressure measurement.
• Perform periodontal therapies and provide periodontal health instructions.
• Conduct screening examinations for school children.
• Sterilize instruments and maintain equipment.
• Assist dentists as needed.
• Answer phones when necessary.

Requirements

Training and Experience

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent training and experience.
• Two or four-year degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited institution.
• Florida Board of Dentistry license.

Special Requirements

• Bilingual skills in English and Spanish preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Manual dexterity and proficiency with dental instrumentation.
• Good rapport with patients and staff.
