Description

Promotes dental health by completing dental prophylaxis; providing oral cancer screening and radiographic studies; charting conditions of decay and disease; performing procedures in compliance with the dental practice act.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
• Contribute to team effort and represent the clinic positively in the community.
• Work cooperatively with providers and staff to achieve the goals of the Atchison Community Health Clinic according to policies and procedures.
• Provide dental prophylactic services to prevent and control dental disease and decay, including cleaning, coronal polishing, calculus removal, sealant application, and impressions.
• Maintain records of dental services rendered.
• Expose and develop diagnostic radiographs.
• Evaluate patients' brushing and flossing techniques.
• Educate patients on dental hygiene and nutritional counseling.
• Administer anesthesia for pain control and prepare diagnostic tests for interpretation by dentists. Administer nitrous oxide and fluoride treatments as needed.
• Report emergency dental needs to the staff dentist.
• Coordinate and present educational dental hygiene programs, e.g., in schools.
• Provide periodontal therapies including root planning, scaling, and soft tissue curettage.
• Occasionally work with dentists as a dental assistant.
• Perform other duties as requested.
