Job Summary:

The RDH plays a vital role in providing our patients with essential health services, including ongoing preventive oral care through cleaning, scaling, and polishing teeth to prevent gum disease. The RDH is also the primary educator and trust-builder with patients in the office.

Essential Duties:

1. Support patient experience by escorting them to and from the treatment room.
2. Educate patients on oral health, preventive care, disease processes, and the role of bacteria, providing appropriate information.
3. Discuss various treatment options, including the most medically appropriate choices for their oral conditions.
4. Document treatment details in the patient's chart, including procedures performed, planned treatments, and time estimates for future appointments.
5. Take radiographs and intra-oral photographs as needed or directed by the doctor.
6. Assess periodontal conditions to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning by the dentist.
7. Administer Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen under supervision, as applicable.
8. Perform iTero scans as required.
9. Apply topical anesthetics and administer local anesthesia when licensed and directed.
10. Place pit and fissure sealants and remove excess cement from teeth surfaces.
11. Assist the doctor during clinical examinations, recording findings and recommendations.
12. Conduct oral cancer screenings on all patients.
13. Perform scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments.
14. Prepare treatment rooms, including setup, sterilization, instrument sharpening, and supply restocking.
15. Inspect the oral cavity, noting lesions, restorations, and missing teeth.
16. Evaluate gingival and oral tissue health.
17. Execute root planing and laser treatments as needed.
18. Polish restorations and appliances such as partials and dentures.
19. Manage temporary cementation and removal of crowns.
20. Schedule and communicate next treatment appointments.
21. Implement and monitor the recall system, contacting overdue patients.
22. Assist in filling the schedule to maintain high daily production levels.
