Summary

The Dental Director/Dentist is responsible for providing trauma-informed quality dental care to the underserved and uninsured populations of Goochland County and surrounding counties, including dental examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans.

The Dental Director/Dentist is responsible for providing trauma-informed quality dental care to the underserved and uninsured populations of Goochland County and surrounding counties, including dental examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans.

Schedule: Monday-Thursday (32 hours/week) off on Fridays.

All of our volunteer dentists report directly to this role.

Essential Duties

The following job functions are essential to this role.

• Provides compassionate dental care including comprehensive client care (crowns, bridges, dentures, etc.), monitoring treatment plans, and conducting follow-ups. Provides specialized dental care including root canal treatments, surgical extractions, crowns, periodontal treatments, etc.
• Collaborates daily with the Dental Coordinator to ensure compliance with dental policies, procedures, objectives, safety, and/or infection control standards.
• Documents patient visits in EMR including accurate coding for compliance and Medicaid billing purposes.
• Works in collaboration with the Dental Coordinator to oversee dental students, dental hygiene students, and volunteer dental staff, providing feedback, and assisting as needed. (Opportunity to work as VCU faculty affiliate in this role.)
• Consults with other internal programs as appropriate to meet client needs.
• Works with external medical providers and action referrals to obtain medical clearance for clients in need of dental care.
• Prescribes medication and treatment regimens as appropriate.
• Develops and maintains strong relationships with local laboratories, serving as the main point of contact and partnering with them to assist in providing dental products to clients.
• Collaborates with the Dental Office Manager on the daily dental schedule and treatment plans needed.
• Attends monthly dental staff and All-Staff meetings.
• Completes other duties as assigned.
  
  

Requirements

The following represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the essential functions of the job.

• Doctorate degree in Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine.
• Current licensure in good standing from Virginia Board of Dental Health Care.
• Maintain active DEA license, as well as CPR and Basic First Aid certification.
• Experience in comprehensive dental care (crowns, bridges, dentures, etc.), monitoring treatment plans, and conducting follow-ups.
• Ability to contribute to a professional work environment including treating patients through a trauma informed care approach.
• Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards, remaining OSHA/HIPAA compliant at all times.
• Ability to oversee and advise the performance of dental students and volunteers.
• Ability to collaborate with different community partners and volunteers to build relationships for shared services.
• Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a variety of people.
• Ability to identify knowledge gaps and appropriately seek support.
